History of Mercedes Benz W201

The Mercedes-Benz W201 was the last incarnation of the Mercedes-Benz 190 nameplate. It was a sports sedan/compact executive car produced by the Mercedes-Benz division of Daimler-Benz. It was replaced in 1993 by the C-Class.

Dubbed "the Baby Benz", the W201-based 190 was the most affordable model in the marque's lineup, being designed to fill the gap in the range below the W123, the equivalent of a modern Mercedes E-class. Amongst the items that were a first for Mercedes was the 190's patented 5-link suspension at the rear, used in subsequent E- and C- class models, and developments used today in Mercedes road cars. It had front and rear anti-roll bars, and anti-dive, anti-squat geometry. The 190 was available with airbags, ABS brakes and seatbelt tensioners, and other advanced safety features. The 190 is regarded as one of the best Mercedes-benz cars ever made.

£600 million was spent researching and developing this car with Mercedes-Benz acutely aware that a failure of this model could easily bring down the rest of their model range and the entire company’s reputation. Mercedes-Benz later said the 190 was 'massively over-engineered'. The W201-based 190 was introduced in November 1982.

Production of the 190 ended on April 13, 1993. About 1.8 million were produced. It was replaced by the C-Class. The 190 is considered by some to be a classic car, there are a number of owners' clubs.
In spite of their age many 190s can still be seen on roads today.

History of Mercedes Benz W126

W126 is the bodycode given to the Mercedes-Benz S-class series, produced from 1979 until 1991. W126 sales were halted in 1992 for the US market. Mercedes-Benz South Africa continued producing them for some years, stopping in 1994.

The car was introduced at the IAA in Frankfurt on september 1979. Most people did not appreciate the design right away. It's appearance differed too much from the rest of the Mercedes fleet at that time. The objective of the design team, lead by Bruno Sacco, was to produce a car that was sleeker, lighter and faster as opposed to the old W116 S-class it was meant to replace. Now, over 20 years after it's first introduction, it is clear they succeeded in designing and building a true classic.

The W126 remained in production for over a decade and it's design still wasn't oldfashioned when production was halted in the early nineties.

The decision to give the W126 a more low-profile look than it's predecessor had been based on the fact that in the late seventies owning a big luxury car was considered self-indulgent and anti-social. The foreseen fuel shortages and rising fuel prices forced Mercedes-Benz to rethink their big-engine strategies and the 'Energy Program' was introduced. Although engine sizes were actually enlarged (the 3.5 liter engine became a 3.8 and the 4.5 became the 5.0) MB argued that the engine sizes were actually decreased because the 5.0 liter engine could replace the 6.9 engine and the 3.8 could replace the 4.5

History of Mercedes Benz W124

To all W124 lucky owner ,
For your information, W124 is type for E class mercedes-benz that emerged in year 1986-1996.
First car in year 1986 is 300E, E strands for 'Einsprit' means injection. Injection means howthe fire progress at the engine is directly shotted from the fuel pump. The capacity of this car is 3000cc which produced 177horse power. Mercedes-benz also produced 300dD which has a diesel engine with 143 horse power. Both models came with a four-speed automatic as the standard transmission.
The structure was completely revised and, through the use of high-strength steel and other construction methods, was significantly stiffer and lighter. The front suspension still utilized double wishbones but incorporated anti-dive technology; and the rear suspension was now a multilink system, which rode better and improved wheel location throughout its travel. The front grille sloped back for better aerodynamics and there was but a single windshield wiper that, using an eccentric cam, was able to clear that big piece of steeply raked glass all by itself.
For 1987, a 260E sedan joined the W124 model mix in the U.S., powered by a 2.6-liter version of the 300E's straight six rated at 158 horsepower. Also new that year was a station wagon that came only in 300TD turbodiesel form.
The 1988 model lineup included a new, crisply styled 300CE coupe, and a five-speed manual transmission was now offered on 260E and 300E. Considering that just a few years earlier diesels had made up over three-quarters of all Mercedes sold in the United States, the disappearance of diesels from Mercedes' 1988 lineup may have been a surprise. But increasingly severe particulate emissions standards left the company little choice. This also meant that Mercedes was finally selling a gasoline-powered wagon here as a 300TE.

The 1989 model range was virtually unchanged except that the five-speed manual transmission (few of which were ordered anyhow) was gone from the lineup again and a passenger-side front airbag was a new option.

A diesel returned to the 1990 W124 line with the introduction of an all-new 2.5-liter turbocharged inline five aboard the awkwardly named 300D 2.5. The 260E was also inelegantly renamed the 300E 2.6 for no apparent reason. By stealing the DOHC, 24-valve cylinder head from that year's new 300SL roadster, the 300CE's 3.0-liter straight six now made a healthy 217 horsepower. Beyond that, if you wanted Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel-drive system on your 300E sedan or 300TE wagon, you could get it.
With a new E-Class due for '96, the only substantial change to the '95 line was the elimination of the limited-production E500 due to the emition process. E 500 consumes 1 litre every 4K. This become this model wasn't so wanted by people.
Mercedes benz put "Master Piece" emblem in W124 prodiction '95-'96 which the option become more variatif, cruise control, passanger air bag, and the electric krey also being attached.
Mercedes-benz stopped the W124 model in the mid year 1996, and than mercedes benz produced the new E-class which typed as W211 model.
